• Training

  Training sessions are led by student coaches, primarily delivered by the Student Coaching Officer, with the assistance of the First Team Captain.

  The Student Coaching Officer sits on the club committee and is voted in each year at the club’s AGM. Anyone from the club is eligible to run for the position and if you are passionate about coaching Saints Sport provides many opportunities, and offers subsidies, for students to gain coaching qualifications during their time at St Andrews.

  Regular club training sessions are run by the Student Coaching Officer, with the First Team Captain leading dedicated First Team sessions.

• Competition

  As part of Saints Korfball members have the opportunity to play at a variety of different levels and experience a wide range of competition.

  Teams
  The club currently supports two competitive teams. The First Team is selected at the start of the academic year, and offers a high standard of competition and dedicated training sessions.

  The Second Team is open to all members of the club who wish to compete for the University, but in a more relaxed environment where gaining experience and having fun is the main goal. With a larger number of members, there is less pressure on competing each week, and players can choose to compete as much or as little as they want.

  British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS)
  The Korfball Club enters two teams into the BUCS National Championships each year.

  The season starts with a preliminary competition in November, followed by regional rounds in January.

  Depending on how they perform at a regional level, teams qualify through to the, Championship, Trophy or Shield knock-out competitions.

  Scottish Korfball League Division 2
  Both teams also compete in the Scottish Korfball League, playing against other university teams and korfball clubs.

  Tournaments
  Throughout the year the club competes in a number of tournaments, participation in which is optional and open to all club members. Over the past year the club has been represented at the Glasgow Beginners Tournament, the SKA Cup and the Edinburgh International Korfball Tournament (EIKT).

  Tournaments often provide a low-pressure environment, which can be a lot of fun and allow newer members of the club to gain valuable playing experience.

• Additional Club Information

  Fundraising:
  Club fundraising
  Throughout the year the club hosts a variety of fundraising events and activities to support additional costs and expenses, such as playing kit and equipment, tournament entries and transport. These include bake sales, t-shirt sales and the yearly ‘Promise Auction’.

  Charity support
  Beyond the club, Saints Korfball are proud to support Athletic Union and University-wide charity campaigns, frequently attending the monthly sport social event that helps raise money for charitable causes, and taking part in campaigns such as the University’s annual RAG week.

  The club also support St Candrews, a student group that works to help those facing food shortage within the local community, running several events throughout the year, with members asked to donate a can as entry.

  Beach Tournament:
  The Korfball Club hosts an annual Beach Tournament at West Sands in St Andrews in May each year.

  The tournament uses the rules of beach korfball, which are similar to regular korfball, but adapted to best suit playing on the sand.

  The event is a real highlight of the club’s year, and no matter the weather, rain or shine, it offers a great experience for everyone involved.

  Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced korfballer, already attend the University or if you are thinking about attending, please get in touch to register your interest and find out more about our club.

  The University hosts a Sports Fayre at the beginning of each academic year during Orientation Week, giving prospective players the opportunity to talk to club members and sign up to ‘Give It A Go’ sessions.
